The Toronto Star has revealed that, based on internal TTC emails obtained through a freedom of information request, the extension of Line 2 in Scarborough is now expected to open in 2033, three years later than previously anticipated.
In 2024, Metrolinx had revealed that soil conditions were hampering tunnel boring under Highway 401, resulting in very slow tunneling speeds and a need for an 8-month delay to repair the tunnel boring machine.
As an interim measure, Toronto has been developing a dedicated bus corridor along the right-of-way of the old Scarborough Rapid Transit (Line 3). This is slated to open in September, 2026.
